These regions, rich in biodiversity, face severe ecological disruption due to unsustainable fuel wood harvesting practices. Forests, which serve as carbon sinks, lose their ability to sequester carbon.

As trees are cut down, the stored carbon is released into the atmosphere. Doing so intensifies the greenhouse effect and leads to erratic weather patterns, rising sea levels, and other climate-related challenges. UNFCCC distributed solar cookers in Kenya to 500 households and documented a 475,000-tonne reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent over two years. It highlights the potential impact of solar cooking on a larger scale in preserving our forests’ role as carbon sinks and mitigating climate change.
• Reduce Carbon Monoxide: Traditional cooking methods using biomass fuel release harmful pollutants that impact indoor air quality and contribute to respiratory illnesses. • Preserve Habitat for Wildlife and Native Fauna: Forest ecosystems support various species, many of which are endangered or threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation. Reducing firewood demand using solar cooking helps conserve these habitats to maintain biodiversity and balance ecosystems.
